What began as a group of people in Kangaroo Valley very concerned about the violence and conflicts imposed by the Indonesian military in Timor Leste in 1999/2000, flourished into a friendship between the village of Remexio and Kangaroo Valley. KVETFG started in 2000 with the intention of supporting the people of Timor Leste to rebuild their country and gain self-determination.
Since then KVETFG has worked with village leadership across the many different areas of Remexio to support the aspirations of their families and communities, as well as with individuals and groups in other parts of Timor Leste.
We have built volleyball courts, soccer fields; supported the health centre with birthing materials; provided musical instruments for young people; sewing machines for women; sponsored exchanges- bringing students and others to Kangaroo Valley.
We've built two student houses, providing much needed accommodation and scholarships for students wishing to access tertiary study; participated in the Alieu Scholarship program; in partnership with ATA in Victoria, installed solar lighting systems in over 1500 homes, and many more projects.
